Silverton, Colorado is unlike anywhere else in the world.
Nestled in a caldera at 9,300 ft., this small mountain paradise is
home to 500 year round residents and about 3,000 folks in the height
of the summer season. In summer, the
Durango &
Silverton Narrow Gauge Train comes to town several times a day
in all its turn-of-the-century steam and splendor. In winter,
Silverton is an excellent base for winter recreation such as skiing
at
Silverton Mountain and
Durango Mountain Resort (also known as Purgatory), as well as
our own family ski area called the Kendall Mountain Recreation Area.
